Contents

We interviewed Jitendra, exploring his journey. He commenced his career as an Electrical & Electronics Engineer and seamlessly transitioned into the cybersecurity industry, showcasing a dynamic and evolving professional trajectory.

Can you share your journey into the field of cybersecurity and how you initially got started as an intern?

My journey began with a strong academic foundation in Electrical & Electronics Engineering but my passion eventually led me to the cybersecurity field. Despite my initial focus on electrical engineering, my growing fascination with cybersecurity prompted me to pursue a postgraduate degree in Cybersecurity, where I excelled with a remarkable 95% score. I actively immersed myself in cybersecurity activities, earning certifications and participating in CTFs. Landing an internship at Snapdeal as a web application penetration tester was a pivotal moment, where I contributed to a 30% improvement in web app security. This practical experience complemented my academic knowledge and set the stage for my entry into the cybersecurity field.

What specific challenges did you face when you first started your cybersecurity internship, and how did you overcome them?

The initial challenges during my cybersecurity internship centered around adapting theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios and navigating the complexities of web application penetration testing. Understanding the complexity of the organization's systems and processes posed a learning curve. However, I overcame these challenges through proactive communication with experienced colleagues, continuous self-learning, and leveraging online resources. This collaborative approach, coupled with hands-on problem-solving, allowed me to quickly integrate into the team and contribute effectively to the improvement of web application security.

How did LetsDefend contribute to your learning experience during the internship? Were there specific features or aspects of the platform that stood out to you?

LetsDefend was instrumental in my internship, offering hands-on experience in investigating real cyber-attacks within a simulated SOC. Its standout features, like real-time threat detection and incident response tools, provided practical insights into threat hunting and incident analysis. The platform's user-friendly interface and robust reporting tools were key to enhancing my understanding of cybersecurity. This experience aligns with my belief that: "Offensive knowledge is required to make a better Defensive strategy," reinforcing my commitment to a comprehensive cybersecurity skill set.

Can you highlight any key skills or knowledge areas that you gained through your experience with LetsDefend?

Through my experience with LetsDefend, I not only refined my skills in real-time threat detection, incident response, and proactive threat hunting within a simulated SOC environment but also successfully completed all Tier-1 log analysis. Additionally, I progressed through paths such as SOC analyst, malware analyst, and incident responder, engaging not only in theoretical learning but also hands-on lab exercises and quiz tests to validate and reinforce my knowledge. LetsDefend played a pivotal role in providing a comprehensive and practical understanding of cybersecurity, contributing significantly to my expertise in the field.

How do you continue to stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in cybersecurity?

Staying on top of changes in the cybersecurity field is important for my professional growth. I keep myself updated by joining webinars, attending conferences, and participating in workshops regularly. I follow trustworthy cybersecurity blogs, journals, and industry publications to learn about new threats and smart solutions. Being part of online communities and forums helps me discuss and exchange ideas with other professionals. Taking specialized courses and getting certifications is a continuous learning process, ensuring my skills match the latest industry requirements. This active approach to staying informed is essential to my commitment to excellence in the always-changing world of cybersecurity.
